Tilehouse Street, Hitchin, Hertfordshire

I shared this photo on a local Hitchin Facebook group and it quickly became apparent how special this street is to so many people! One of the oldest streets in Hitchin, it’s housed several notable residents including George Chapman (1559 – 1634), who was a playwright and poet as well as most notably being known for translating Homer, supposedly on Hitchin Hill. A blue plaque sits proudly on the wall outside his former home at number 34.
