Happy New Year and Happy Lockdown
14th January 2021

I would say Happy New Year, but Happy Lockdown seems more appropriate as we kick start 2021 in England with, well, a national lockdown! In the couple of weeks before it was announced on 4 January, I was fortunate to be able to capture some cityscapes (responsibly, I might add) around central London. This was something I’d been meaning to do for some time, but with the pressure of being ‘stuck’ here in London, as the city first found itself in Tier 3 and then suddenly in a new Tier 4, it was the push I needed. I seized the opportunity for my own sanity more than anything and I’m so glad I did.
Winter can be a magical time for photography, even in a city. The short days with the sun at a lower position in the sky can mean soft light throughout the day and the crisp cold air seems to add an extra sharpness to images. In all of the images below, I have used a long exposure to give that lovely smooth effect to the water. It has also helped to capture the clouds and sunset colours, giving a nice tone. So I will just leave you to sit back, scroll and enjoy...
I’m now staying at home for the foreseeable and as there are not many places to photograph nearby in my immediate ‘local area’ (ie without driving anywhere, which is my interpretation), I do have an alternative little lockdown project up my sleeve, which I hope to be able to share the results of in the coming weeks! If you follow me on Instagram, you might get a sneak preview...
